WWW.GOCLEAR.CO.NZ vWork unlocking the grid vWork,NewZealand’sleadingcloudplatformfor mobile workforces, has released Advanced Route Optimisation to help fleets cope with Auckland’s traffic problems. “Advanced Route Optimisation allows dispatchers to enter all the work they need to do that day – pick-ups, deliveries, and service calls – and then our algorithms will define the most efficient set of run-sheets for their drivers,” said vWork CEO Brendon Petrich. “Our analysis shows that fleets being scheduled manually spend 20% more time on the road than they need to, simply because the complexity of scheduling thousands of jobs across hundreds of vehicles is beyond any human.” The platform takes into account a driver’s working hours, skills and vehicle capabilities and then computes thousands of possible routes to accomplish the most work in the least possible time. Operators can choose to reduce total time on road or to do more work with their existing resources without having to put more vehicles on the road. Petrich said the optimisation platform could be used by any transport operator, but was particularly useful for companies using a hub and spoke approach like courier firms, or those with lots of stops on a single daily run. www.vworkapp.com Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund update Fifteenprojectshavebeenconditionallyapproved to receive funding from the Low Emissions Vehicle Contestable Fund. Projects include the use of 100% electric delivery vans, a car share scheme, an electric taxi fleet trial, two electric bus trials, seven charging infrastructure projects and the establishment of a heavy electric vehicle conversion facility. A summary of conditionally approved projects is available on EECA’s website. These projects will help accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) by influencing others to use them. Increasing the number of electric vehicles on New Zealand roads will result in long-term reductions in carbon emissions from road transport. There was high interest in the fund with about 80 applications seeking more than $27 million. The second funding round, with up to $6 million available, will open for applications in late February/ March. Semco Group has about 30 truck and trailer units mainly based in Whangarei, Auckland and Tauranga. Established in 1966, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Semco’s new International 9870 is sporting curtains advertising Superior Personnel, a recruitment company that specialises in freight and logistics placements. Also long established, this year Superior celebrates 20 years in business. With offices in Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, Superior provides a nationwide temporary and permanent recruitment service. Semco say they are very proud to be associated with Superior Personnel. Superior Personnel’s Waikato branch manager Kerri Whittaker says Superior has a strong presence in freight and logistics and therefore it was a logical choice to advertise within the industry. ROADNOISE EV Charging Infrastructure Guide released T he January publication of guidance on public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) is timely as New Zealand’s fleet reaches more than 2500, exceeding all targets. The guidance supports public charging infrastructure by providing clear recommendations for both investors and those enabling the development of charging station sites, such as local authorities. Transport Minister Simon Bridges said the guidance was an important step towards developing a safe and consistent nationwide charging network that EV drivers could depend on. He said while most charging will continue to take place at home or the workplace, reliable public charging infrastructure was crucial to provide drivers with the confidence to make longer trips, and could also influence the decision to purchase an electric vehicle. The Transport Agency worked closely with local and central government and industry to identify recommendations that would best meet the long-term needs of EV drivers. The guidance supports the development and roll- out of public charging infrastructure and is part the government-industry programme to help reach 64,000 EVs in New Zealand by the end of 2021.
