www.goclear.co.nz Waitomo Petroleum celebrates 70 F amily-owned Kiwi heartland company, Waitomo Petroleum, will celebrate 70 years in business this June. The company has grown to become one of the largest independent suppliers of petroleum products in New Zealand, and their success proves that small, hard- working companies that serve provincial communities can compete against corporate giants and flourish within the global oil industry. Waitomo Petroleum managing director Jimmy Ormsby says his grandfather, Desmond Ormsby, started the business in Te Kuiti in June 1947, and three generations of the Ormsby family have guided the business to where it stands today. At the time Mobil Oil New Zealand was seeking an agent to distribute products in the King Country and a deal was done with Desmond’s company, Waitomo Transport. Following the $250 billion merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1998, the family was invited to either sell their share, or buy Mobil’s shareholding in Waitomo. They bought out Mobil and in 2002 Waitomo reverted back to being a family-owned company. The company has an extensive customer base in Auckland, and across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. It employs a team of 50, and has expanded its fuel stop network into Northland, Poverty Bay, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, and Manawatu-Wanganui. Eaton and Cummins announce joint venture for automated transmissions P ower management company Eaton and Cummins Inc. have announced an agreement to form a joint venture for automated transmissions for heavy- duty and medium-duty commercial vehicles. Just as we’ve done for the past 100 years, we will use our experience in partnerships and technological expertise to ensure our customers’ success.” The joint venture will design, assemble, sell and support all future medium-duty and heavy-duty automated transmissions for the commercial vehicle market and leverage both Cummins’ and Eaton’s global service and support networks Eaton’s Vehicle Group will retain its global manual transmission business, global clutch business, current generation medium-duty and heavy-duty automated transmission business outside of North America, global aftermarket business, light-duty transmission business, agricultural transmission business, and global automotive business, and associated product lines.
